Honeywell Wi-Fi Thermostat Case Study

Bob's New ThermostatDo you remember our previous post about smart thermostats?  A good friend of mine, Bob, went out and bought the Honeywell Wi-Fi unit at Home Depot for $249 and tax. Our Service Technician, Kevin Burns, installed it in Bob’s home in an attic office.  It took 30 minutes to install the hardware and another 30 minutes to install the software and answer all Bob’s questions.  Bob reports that when Kevin left, Bob was programming the unit from his computer and iPhone. He was also able to set up the daily schedule from the unit’s touch panel without ever having to consult the manual, watch a video, or call Kevin.  Bob really likes the vacations feature (where you put in the dates you will be away) that overrides the regular schedule.  Another great feature is that the unit will turn on the heat on a cold day, and as the day warms up it will turn on the air conditioning.  No manually operated switch is required.  Kevin pointed out that to display the outside temperature you don’t have to run any wires to a sensor.  The unit uses Wi-Fi to get the temperature and humidity from the Internet. signature
