In our residential business our technicians are taught to be extremely careful when entering a customer’s home. Boot covers are an important part. Technicians need to work outside, in crawl spaces and basements, and boots can get dirty. To walk into the living part of the home with dirty boots is not allowed and all technicians are issued with blue plastic boot covers. The home owner doesn’t need to ask the technician to cover up or remove their shoes; they do it as a habit. I think it’s just part of the job like keeping the truck clean, and wearing a clean uniform. It’s all part of respecting the home owner’s space.
